Ready to Re-Write Your Life Story?: We’re here to help
Brave Beginnings works across the GTA to match women who have recently escaped any form of oppression or crisis and want to move forward in their lives with mentors who are happy and successful in their lives and want to give back. Brave Beginnings works hard to match mentors with suitable mentees based on their background, experiences and culture where possible. In doing so, our hope is to provide meaningful support and friendship to aid in the healing process and metamorphosis of each mentee from victim to survivor.
After escaping a 10 year long oppressive marriage, Samra pursued her education as a single mother working multiple jobs and graduated as the top student at the University of Toronto, winning several major awards and scholarships. “I am grateful for my friendship with Samra Zafar, the founder of Brave Beginnings as she has inspired me to continue to pursue my dreams around pursuing higher post-secondary education at the Masters level and has been a great ally as I too advocate and support women that are fleeing violence. As a woman who has worked in the Violence Against Women sector for many years, I can attest to the need for a mentorship and support program for women that have left an abusive situation on a long-term basis, as they begin to stabilize and look towards building a safe and sustainable future for themselves and their children. I look forward to seeing Brave Beginnings grow and become a model of empowerment across Canada in the near future”
“Last year my life totally changed when I got divorced, it was something one never wants to experience in life but I guess that’s how it was planned for me. I was so hopeless, I used to cry hours and hours in my room and didn’t want to do anything in life. Then I met Samra Zafar and I felt there is still hope left in life. I got in touch with her, started talking to her, viewed her motivational posts on Facebook. It gave me a different vision of life. I was changing and life didn’t seem as depressing as it was before. This amazing person helped me through that crucial time and I simply have no words to thank her. All I can say is this was a Brave Beginning for me and I feel blessed to have met her that day or else I wouldn’t have been same person as I am now. I truly admire this courageous, confident, honest, humble and supportive person. Thank you SAMRA you’re truly an angel”
“My journey began 6 years ago, when I was married to a man who was extremely abusive. He could not stand the chances of a woman prospering, attaining her ambitions whilst balancing her married life. I suffered with an abusive marriage. I finally left him when I was 8 months pregnant and came to Canada to deliver the baby. I had the fear of being judged by the society for fleeing the relationship, my family was supportive but did not want to get involved in helping me to decide. I stumbled upon Samra’s story while browsing the internet and decided to message her on Facebook. Samra’s reply was instant. I just felt as if someone understands me, knows where I stand in my relationship, and would help me with the dilemma that I was facing. All women deserve respect in a relationship. Samra is like a lone tree that offers solace in the scorching heat of the desert”
